Riders License The Ordinance of Forest Preserve Requires: All Horseback Riders on Forest Preserve District trails must obtain and have in their possession a Riders License issued by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. Horseback Riding Rules If you enjoy horseback riding and you aspire to be a good horseman, we ask you to observe the following: - Walk horses between stable and trail.
- Be courteous and considerate.
- Slow to a walk or slow trot on meeting other riders, hikers, or bicyclists.
- Do not race horses keep horses always under control.
- Stallions not permitted on trails.
- Be humane and kind to your horse.
- ONLY PERMITTED GAITS are walk, trot, or slow canter.
- STAY ON ESTABLISHED TRAIL keep to the right.
Failure to obey could result in revocation of license.
Multi-Use Trail Rules - Bicyclists and equestrians must stay on the designated trail. No off-trail riding.
- Be courteous to other trail users. Bicyclists yield to hikers and equestrians. Hikers yield to equestrians. Give notice before passing other trail users.
- Do not ride on unpaved trails when the trail is muddy.
- Motor vehicles prohibited.
- Recreational use only. No speed training. (8 mph maximum speed)
- All trails are two-way. Stay in your lane. Give notice before passing other trail users.
- Dont litter. Please pack out more than you pack in.
- For riders safety, helmets are suggested.
WATCH FOR THE FOLLOWING SIGNS: 
- Trail Confidence Marker These 4' x 4' gray markers identify the designated trail system at 1/4 mile intervals. Stay on the designated trail.
- Trail Closure Marker These 4' x 4' orange markers identify non-designated trails which are closed.
